Construction will continue to rehabilitate portions of the Mathews Bridge deck. Information provided by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
The project will include partial deck removal and replacement by construction crews. The work is necessary to extend the service life of the structure and maintain quality standards required by FDOT.
Drivers can expect to see daily lane closures on the bridge as crews stage equipment. Full bridge closures will be necessary as the work is being conducted.
Single lane closures may only occur on weekdays between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Weekend bridge closures will be necessary and may begin on Fridays at 6 p.m. and extend until Sundays at 6 a.m. The contractor is also permitted to have an extended eastbound lane closure on Sundays until noon. Construction work on this project is not allowed during home Jaguars football games.
When closures are necessary, drivers will be detoured to the Hart Bridge as an alternate route. Message boards and signs will direct traffic through the detour and law enforcement officers will be staged to prevent access to the Mathews Bridge. Maritime traffic will not be impacted by these closures.
This project is scheduled to be completed in less than 60 days, weather and schedule permitting.
